My skipper even said he couldnt hear the motor over the speakers. I recently bought a sony car cd player and two pairs of these speakers for the boat I work on. I'm a commercial crab fisherman and on the boat theres a lot of noise that drowns out the music but these speakers blast right over the top of the boat noise. I'm really impressed. for a pair of $40 speakers THEY ROCK.
Also, the metal grate speaker covers collect a lot more duct than most speakers, but they do come off easily for cleaning. I got these speakers for free when I bought a Sonos sound system, and I've been more or less satisfied with them, but not overly impressed by any means. I had them in my bedroom for months before trying another pair, and I was shocked how much better the sound was with another (inexpensive) pair of indoor speakers. If I had more use for them outdoors, I think they would fare much better when compared to other outdoor speakers. So I would recommend them for outdoor speakers, but not so much for indoors.
Originally planned on using these on my boat, but ended up using on my patio. Case is a bit bulky for a 20' boat.
I have purchased 5 pairs of these when they where $59.00 a pair from Amazon. At there current $129.00 price tag, you can do a lot better a lot of other places. Either a suplier has disapeared or someone is trying to take advantage of all the good reviews. All of the possitive reviews for this product where based on price and written before someone doubled the current price of the speakers. And there are outlets on the web selling these for half of what is being charged here on amazon. Don't believe any of the reviews posted here noting value, those people posted when these where $59.00 a pair and not $129 a pair.I now have to go back to the drawing board to figure out my next installs.
Of course you will need a subwoofer if you want the deep low frequencies, but any speaker of this size is going to require that. These are pretty impressive speakers. I am very particular to sound quality and at this price, I don't see how you can beat them especially for outdoor use. That being said, the frequency response is quite good. I bought two pair, one for my patio and another for my garage and I am very happy with how they sound.
